With Jesus in the Upper Room (John 13-17)
“Peace” can often be a sought-after but fleeting experience. Jesus’ disciples had forsaken everything to follow Him. Within twenty-four hours He would be dead and all their hopes and dreams shattered. Likewise, we face our own crises today: the threat of terrorism, employment issues, health concerns, lawlessness, debt, wayward family members – the list goes on. In the Upper Room, the night before His crucifixion, Jesus had a lot to say about how to maintain peace in life. When He had every reason to be personally distracted and distressed, He worked selflessly to make provision for His disciples’ crisis of forsakenness. This discourse gives us insight into Jesus’ loving and careful preparation of the apostles for this crisis. What He did 2,000 years ago has significant application to our own faith today.
