It is often claimed that since the DNA of chimpanzees and humans is 98.5% identical, they must have shared a common evolutionary ancestor millions of years ago.
New research, published in 2018, revealed that previous studies had biased the data. University of London evolutionist Richard Buggs shared the results of his new research, “The percentage of nucleotides in the human genome that had one-to-one exact matches in the chimpanzee genome was 84.38%.” Another study has confirmed these results.
This “bombshell” means chimps and humans are too dissimilar to have descended from a common ancestor. While this is troubling for evolutionary theory, it affirms the biblical account that humans are the result of a unique creation event: “It is I who made the earth, and created mankind upon it” (Isaiah 45:12). Furthermore, the Bible warns, “Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker” (Isaiah 45:9).
