Astronomers can now see even more of God’s power and glory (Psalm 19:1). The Hubble Space Telescope is thirty-one-years old, has made 1.5 million observations, and has had 18,000 published academic papers based on its data. It is being replaced by the James Webb Space Telescope with a 21’4” primary mirror compared to the 8-foot Hubble mirror. It will revolutionize deep space research.
The cost? $10 billion, four times that of Hubble. The mirror is coated with 48.25 grams of pure gold, about the weight of a golf ball. Hubble is expected to provide service for another decade before being retired.
