“Gold…FISH” that is. Drop a line in many Minnesota lakes and you will often get a bass, crappie, or walleye. In some lakes, however, you may get a goldfish – the size of a football!
Residents in Burnsville and Apple Valley have been dumping pet goldfish into local lakes, which mucks up the bottom sediments and uproots plants, reducing overall water quality. City officials have contracted with a company to survey the extent of the infestation. A year ago, nearby Carver County workers removed between 30,000 and 50,000 goldfish in one day from local lakes.
