Prayer and Praise, September 2024
- Praise that the staff and evangelists, and their families, are not experiencing any major health issues. Pray that recent surgeries will continue to fully heal.
- Pray for an increase of Adrian’s prayer and financial support team. He needs to double his current monthly income to expand his ministry to full time. If interested in helping, please click here.
- Praise God that Oleg continues to have a full schedule of ministry for three weeks and five times per year in Russia. Pray for his safety since he is quite close to the war zone. Check out the reports of his trips online.
- Praise that we continue to add Bible study materials to the Bible Learning Center, and that it continues to attract new users. Pray for spiritual impact of our other ministries on Facebook® and YouTube® as well.
Was Jesus Literate?

In the last issue of Happ-O-getics, I challenged the view held by some scholars that the illiteracy rate among people at the time of Jesus was at least 98% (they could neither read nor write). Based on the many libraries and volumes of written documents that existed even then, the statistic is quite unlikely.
I also quoted Helen Bond, a professor of Christian Origins at the University of Edinburgh who said, “If Jesus was a carpenter/mason, as we generally suppose, then it’s not impossible that he had some rudimentary grasp of letters and/or numbers for the purposes of his trade, but I think it very unlikely that Jesus could read or write.”
In this issue, I want to challenge the naivety or nonsense of this statement regarding Jesus.
