I have friends who have chosen Isaiah 40:31 as their life verse:
But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint (NIV).
How encouraging!
Eagles have strong wings, adults with a wingspan of six to eight feet, which can flap continuously in flight. To reach heights up to 10,000 feet, they soar, rather than flap, riding thermals (columns of rising hot air) which lift them with minimal effort and saving much energy. As a result, they can soar with endurance, often staying two to four hours in the air without landing.

In Alaska there are people living in cabins which are isolated from civilization. This past Thanksgiving Esther bought thirty turkeys, put them in plastic bags, and dropped them near these homes from her single-engine airplane. She says her aim is not perfect, but that she has “never hit a house, a person or a dog.”

On resurrection Sunday morning, Mary Magdalen was at the tomb mourning the death of Jesus and seeking to discover where His body had been taken (John 20:11-16). Two angels asked her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” Then she sought Jesus’ body from a person she mistook for the gardener. It was really the resurrected Jesus who asked her again, “Woman, why are you weeping?” (v. 15).
Lutheran commentator Lenski clearly saw the irony in this:
Indeed, why does she weep? – when we should all have had cause to weep to all eternity if what she wept for had been given her, the dead body of her Lord!*
The most obvious response to this question is, “The keys to what?”
Immediately after Peter stated that he believed Jesus was “the Christ [=Messiah], the Son of the living God,” Jesus promised him the “keys to the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 16:16, 19). The textual context is clear that it is upon the faith confession of Peter, the foundational Rock of 1 Corinthians 3:10-11, that Jesus would build His Church (Matthew 16:18).
