A recently discovered 3,100-year-old piece of ceramic pottery has revealed the name of one of the most famous judges from the biblical book of Judges. The Bible refers to Gideon as a “mighty man of valor” (Judges 6:12) because God used him to deliver Israel from Midianite oppression.
Gidion went by another name as well, “Jerubbaal,” which means “contender with Baal” (see Judges 6:28-35). That’s the name found written on the pottery, which came from Southern Israel.
