The advent of this first issue of the FaithSearch “Paraclete” needs some explanation. In John 14:16-17 Jesus told the apostles He would ask the Father to “give you another Helper” who will “be in you.” This “Paraclete” (παρα´κλητον in Greek) is identified as the “Spirit of truth,” that is, the Holy Spirit. Jesus was the first “Paraclete” (1 John 2:1) and the Holy Spirit is another of the same kind.
At the time of Jesus, a “paraclete” was used in a court of justice to denote a counsel for the defense—an advocate or intercessor by your side. That’s how we are using it. This publication is dedicated to “Advocating for the Truth of the Christian Faith.” Our prayer is that the “Spirit of truth” will be our indwelling counsel and also the One who advocates for biblical truth within the readers of these pages.
